Voices from the Poster Floor

My goal during APTA CSM was simple: to raise awareness and provide exposure to fellow Filipino physical therapists who are actively contributing to the profession in meaningful ways.

Too often, we think that presenting lectures is the primary way to engage at a national conference. But as I moved through the poster sessions—conducting impromptu “ambush” interviews—I was reminded that there are many ways to show up, contribute, and lead.

Poster presentations are an essential part of professional engagement. They support evidence-based practice and often serve as a stepping stone toward future publications. More importantly, they create space for knowledge sharing and help translate research into real-world clinical application.

Through these conversations, I saw how clinicians and researchers are exploring unique patient outcomes, testing new approaches, and asking important questions that shape how we practice. These are insights that may not always reach the larger stage—but are just as impactful.

This experience deepened my appreciation for the work behind evidence-based practice. It offered a glimpse into how colleagues bridge theory and clinical care—through critical thinking, reviewing literature, and presenting ideas clearly and concisely.

Poster sessions are more than displays of research. They are spaces for dialogue.

Poster sessions are more than displays of research. They are spaces for dialogue. They invite feedback, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and open doors for professional connection.

For me, these interviews became more than content—they became a reminder.

A reminder that advancing our profession is not limited to one path. Whether as exhibitors, speakers, or poster and platform presenters, each of us has a role in shaping the future of physical therapy.

Filipino physical therapists have the potential to lead and contribute greatly to the field. The opportunities are there—we simply need to take the first step.

And if you are still uncertain, know that you are not alone. We are fortunate to have strong Filipino leaders who are willing to mentor, guide, and support the next generation.

Be bold.

Be courageous.

And believe that you can become whatever you aspire to be.
